1980 gs1000e what carbs should be fitted as standard

    Those are not VM29's, the carb bowl drain tubes give it away - VM26SS or VM28SS.
    The carbs and boots fit the head, that's no later model CV head.
    You can order the standard boots from a 78 or 79 GS1000.
    OEM is best but i have good experiences with the Cruzinimage ones.

      You cannot fit the CV carbs.
      VM carbs work great on a GS1000.
      It's a bit of work to tune these with pods, so if you're happy as is, don't change a thing.

        Thanks for the reply,atleast I know what I've got now, and thanks for the link, Will I need to remove carbs to find out of they're VM26ss or VM28ss, or do the boots fit both ?

              Rijko Yes very happy, Just had them sonically cleaned and set up, bike ticks over nicely and no flat spots anywhere all the way to full throttle,

                  Usually, it the boots are bad, it sucks IN false air. (not leak fuel out)
                  And starts spitting/coughing through the pods... but you say she's running right.

                  Seeping of fuel may point to a bad petcock, bad carb float valve needle/seat, or both.

                  Hope your oil level is not too high (leaking can have gas enter the engine and raise oil level)
                  Recommend to take off the oil filler cap and smell for fuel.

                    Correct me if I'm wrong "AGAIN", but I don't remember any VM28's on Suzuki's, Kawasaki did have the VM28's & they were a direct bolt-on for the Suzuki's. Jusy say'in.

                      Yes she's running fine, The seeping is on the bottom of the intake boots - Engine side, Its more like a yellow/brown stain under all four,I act changed the oil yesterday, no smell of signs of fuel,and petcock is only four month old, Should I just ride it for now and see what develops ?

                        VM28SS was standard on the Euro GS1000SN, some E's and L's.

                          Yes. Clean the old stuff as well as you can so a new seeping will be clearly new.
                          It could be a PO had issues and solved them, you may not have a problem at all.

                              Damn, you're right. Just about every other GS had them as late as '79. Looks like Suzuki was confident enough in their electric foot to drop the manual kicker entirely. Of course, the drive to save weight on the 1000 engine probably helped that decision.

                                That's *exactly* the reason.
                                In 1977, the Suzuki engineers got the order to build a 1000 cc engine, lighter than the GS750.
                                To accomplish that ao things they dropped the kickstart mechanism.

                                I love the GS1000 engine but i regret that decision.
                                How i love the kickstart on my GT750 and Z900 ..
