    intake boot o-ring

ordering new carb o-rings, and should probably order new intake boot o-rings too

info says part 09280-40010 is the correct ring, with an OD of 39.7

if i order from cycleorings.com, do i need the 38mm rings, or the 40mm rings?

looks like he no longer carries the 450 carb o-ring kit. Still has the 40mm boot o-ring

yet more crap that doesnt make sense on this bike.

the groove the o-ring sits in does not match the OEM number

these are my groove measurements- https://imgur.com/a/I8Vfezu

Id is 40.12 mm, OD is 46.23mm

that's way off the oem measurements. what gives?

says he doesn't have the 80-82 gs450 rings. mine's an 85, with 83 carbs coming to replace the busted ones it came with

Harbor Freight metric oring box. And if the groove id is what you posted then its a 40mm oring.

i have a set, but they're nitrile. this o ring is supposed to go directly onto the engine. isnt that bad for nitrile?

edit: im a fricken moron. the suzuki oem part is 39.7mm INNER diamater, not outer. so it'll fit just fine

Im not sure about heat and nitile but ive used HF nitrile orings in fuel tubes without issues.

Must have viton O-rings for the intake boots.

O-rings are sized bases off ID and thickness.

It's advised to replace the boots if they are original. If they are not cracked already they will soon.

the boots are in great shape. no visible cracks or rotting, the rubber is nice and pliable. put em on a scooter engine i got lying around and had no vacuum leaks

not trying to be contrary. you said i might need to replace them if they were original. i'm just telling you that they seem to be in good shape. i don't think they ARE original. they look like they've been replaced, and fairly recently. the only thing i can see wrong with them is the o-rings are worn flat

Take a guess how long it takes new o-rings to take that shape
That is how old the boots are. At least, they may be older if someone replaced the o-rings and not the boots.
If the boots are flexible and in good shape, they may be reused but that's a choice.
If the bike is a keeper I would replace them, when not sure or flipping the bike for instance things may be different.

New original boots are still available ( that may change, original parts availability for the old Suzuki's is getting less ).
I am working on a GS450L from a buddy atm, and at just 30 euro a piece, they will be replaced.
