Pilot fuel screw. Groove OD = 3.86mm. Carb passage OD = 5.90mm
A 1.5mm thick x 3.5mm ID O-ring fits well. There is .36mm stretch to install the O-ring, and the installed O-ring OD is 6.4mm which is about perfect. Use silicone grease on the O-ring and threads during install.Last edited by Nessism; 12-10-2021, 07:15 PM.Ed

I am just beginning my search for replacement o-rings for my ‘82 450. If you have a reliable source, please let me know! I need to refresh those 40 year old rubber rings after riding it from 9k on the odometer to 17k in the past year and a half.
as an aside, it is such a shame that 450 parts are kinda hard to find - I love this bike and really want to keep it alive, but if I can’t take the carbs apart without fear of destroying nearly irreplaceable o-rings then the moment it decides to get clogged up or they dry out the bike is done (unless I swap on different carbs?). Anyway, until then I might just go pay an extra dollar a gallon for ethanol free gas I just found in town to hopefully prevent any water -based corrosion in the fuel system.--------------------------------------------------

1.5 x 3.5 works, but I suspect you could also use 1.3 or 1.4 too. Since the groove is 3.86mm I think something a little smaller than 3.8mm is better, but it obviously doesn't matter.Ed

Received my o-ring kits today. One of the kits has several small metal washers... They weren't pictured in the ad. Anyone have any idea what they would be for???
EDIT: Oops, the ad does mention them. They're for the idle adjustment screw on BS carbs.- 1983 GS850L ~ 30,000 miles and going up - Finally ready for a proper road trip!

I just rebuilt my VM carbs and all o rings seemed to fit well except for the pilot fuel jet. To me it seemed like the o ring ID was a bit too big, the o ring fit loose on the jet. I have fuel leaking out of all 4 carbs and I haven't determined if it's from the pilot fuel jet or the reused bowl gaskets yet. I will pull the carbs next week to investigate.- 1983 GS850L ~ 30,000 miles and going up - Finally ready for a proper road trip!

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I forgot to mention I ordered the intake o-rings from the ebay seller listed above and compared to the OEM orings I ordered with my new OEM intakes. The orings from the ebay seller are slightly thicker and fit the recess in the OEM intake better IMO. The OEM oring is thinner and had to be stretched ever so slightly to fit into the intake recess. The ebay oring just fell right into place. I went ahead and used the OEM oring but will be using the ebay ones from now on I think.- 1983 GS850L ~ 30,000 miles and going up - Finally ready for a proper road trip!
