    '79 GS550E coils

I searched for coils and wasn't able to find what I was looking for, just want to find a reputable site to order new coils (with wires/boots) for this thing. I haven't spent much time with this bike yet and am still trying to figure out where to get parts! Thanks!

This coil fits many different twins (that require 1 dual output coil) and four cylinder bikes that require 2 dual output coils. It's a replica of a Suzuki ignition coil but the mounting hole spacing is quite universal.

Made in Taiwan, not China proper. You could do worse...

My go-to preferred coils for the GSs and others are the MT-08 coils found on various Honda models. They're double-ended of course, but also have easily replaceable leads, which enable the easy upgrade to decent quality HT conductors.
A set of them from a six-pot Gold Wing (3 coils) will often sell for $25 ish.

I noticed there are a few ohm ratings for various 550 models, is 4 ohm what I want?

I use a pair of those MT-08 coils on my GS1000 79 model there fine and as said plug leads are replaceable.

Yes, 4 or 5 ohm for bikes with points. You can download a manual for your bike with the specs here...https://gsarchive.bwringer.com/
