Wiring help greatly appreciated!

I just got a 1979 GS750E. The previous owner had removed the gas tank because there was a leak. So I'm in the process of fixing the leak and getting everything put back together. I have 2 questions that I haven't been able to figure put by looking at the wiring diagrams...

1) There is a 6 pin connector beneath the gas tank. What connects here?

2) There are 2 wires coming from the fuel level sender. They were already disconnected and I don't see a point to connect them. Does anyone have any pictures or videos showing the location of the connection points for it?

First of all, welcome to the GSR. What schematic were you looking at? I'm looking at the "early 8 valve GS750" schematic posted on Basscliffs website but didn't see the sending unit nor this 6 pin connector on it. Must be an older schematic from a bike that didn't have a fuel gauge, although I though all these GS's did... Can you post a picture of the 6 pin connector, as well as list the wire colors? Also, you asked where this connects to, which to me implies you couldn't find the other end of the connector?

Concerning the fuel sending unit wires, I think those two wires should be somewhere around the front of the battery box under the seat, towards the left side of the bike. Somewhere in there, unless they've been yanked out or fallen down. See my image below, from the 77 GS750 I used to have. The circle is where the fuel sending unit bullet connectors should be, and the arrow is pointing at a connector that I suspect is the one your talking about??? Hope this helps.

The six pin connector is likely from the left hand switch…see this diagram …back up to his site if it doesn’t show up here!

So I looked for the wires for the fuel sending unit, and I don't see them. So I'm assuming they've been removed.
As for the connector, I've taken a few pictures.
They've made so many splices into this harness it's hard to tell what goes where. I'm almost wondering if it wouldn't be easier getting a stock harness and rewiring the whole thing.

With those colors, I believe it is (or was) likely the wiring to the gear position lights in the instrument cluster. Should be a lone blue wire nearby, they kept the neutral indicator wire out of this plug.

The bottom end of this diagram is a round widget attached to the engine case in the area of your front sprocket. Have to take the sprocket cover off to see it. It has the same color bundle of wires coming out of it.

The gear selector sensor is above where the shift shaft goes into the side of the case. If you take it off (no reason to, really), be careful not to lose the pin and spring on the back side of it.

That does look like the correct colors according to the diagram. Thank you for helping me figure that out!

Even if you don't find your exact bike model's wiring diagram on BikeCliff's website, Suzuki was very consistent with wire colors from year to year, model to model on the 70s-80s GSes. This was taken from one of the fine color wiring diagrams on BikeCliff's.

I was looking on partzilla for the PN for the wiring harness I needed, but when Googling and checking Ebay I couldn't find anything. Are there any acceptable substitutions for a 36610-45040 harness? I assume this is the correct harness because of the ignition it shows in the image. The alternate harness has a different ignition.
I apologize in advance for the questions if they seem simple or stupid. I'd rather ask than assume. This is my first bike, and first basically semi-restoration project.

Thank you both, Rich82GS750TZ and 93Bandit! You've both been a great help! I got to looking at the wires today using the 16 valve GS750 color diagram and was able to find the fuel sending unit wires! They were tucked up and ziptied to the frame under the tank mount!
