    SOLVED Turn Signal Control Unit TSCU 1978 GS1000E 1979 GS850G ALL 1979 GS1000 Models

For less than $100.00 you can replace the original TSCU, turn signal control unit with a modern self canceling turn signal control unit made by SDC, Signal Dynamics part # 01501. I've seen others in this forum, over the years, attempt to do so, that's if you have a degree in electronics engineering. This will ONLY work with the GS models that came with the self canceling TSCU- 1978 GS1000E and the 1979 GS805G, GS1000, GS1000E, GS1000L and GS1000S. I used the connectors that came with my 1979 GS1000E. I cut the wiring right next to the TSCU, then removed ALL the pins inside the connectors. There's a six pin and a four pin connector. I marked the exact location where the pins came from. On the six pin, you only need two of the wires, the orange and the black/white stripe, discard the rest. On the four pin, you will use ALL four of the wires. It's important to note the wire locations on the connectors before you disassemble. It helps to make a drawing of the six and four pin connectors with the location of each wire, so they will go back EXACTLY where they came from. On the six pin, the orange wire is alway hot with the ignition on. The black/white stripe is ground. The four pin is as follows: black/blue stripe is left turn switch/input. The green/black stripe is the right turn switch/input. The solid black wire is left output to the left side, front and rear turn signal lamps. The solid green is right output to the right side, front and rear turn signal lamps. I cut, trimmed and soldered all the wires, put heat shrink on each soldered joint, then put a larger heat shrink over all the wires, It didn't take long to do. Bullet connectors can also be used. As for final installation, I zip tied it to the old TSCU location. It works perfectly, with timed and self cancelling. As I mentioned earlier THIS will only work with the GS bikes that came with the self cancelling TSCU. Nothing else has to be done. The original turn signal relay will not be connected to the circuit, so nothing has to be done with it. The unit come with instructions on setting different cancelling times. You can also self cancel after the turn signal is activated, by going back and contacting whatever side is blinking. Finally an easy solution to a problem that has plagued the 1978 and 1979 GS series.

You can fit a timer for under a tenner.

This clearly seems to be a spam thread. That said, if there is a product that solves the early TSCU dilemma, I'm good with that.

What part of what I shared seems to be a "spam thread"? As a 36 year owner of a 1979 GS1000E, having been plagued with the TSCU issue for ever, I finally found an easy and cheap solution to the problem. I therefore shared that, so others can finally get that resolved, and you call THAT spam? F.O.!!

Signal Dynamics 01501 Turn Signal control unit update. I installed this unit on my 1978 GS1000E in 2023 and the unit continues to operate flawlessly. This fix is for real and not spam.

https://www.signaldynamics.com/01501/ here's a link to the unit.... Bit pricey at $80 but worth it to get rid of the problem I would guess. I never had an issue with one.
