    GS650 Aftermarket Electronic Ignition

I have a bad igniter on my 1981 GS650 (not firing the rh coil), I see that the dyna s type ignition only shows to fit on most GS's but not the 650. Has anyone tried to fit one? It seems if you would hook up the the two pickup wires to the coils and 12V to the unit, it should work.

I have swapped the coil wires and the rh coil fires, ruling out a bad coil.

There is an oil pressure sensor behind the ignition plate, that blocks the install of a Dyna S. I've never done this, but have read in various threads posted here through the years, that a dremel can be used to clearance the ignition plate, and thus, make room for the Dyna S to fit.

That's great news. I may try this. I am just trying to avoid spending $100 or more for a used hit or miss cdi.

I have not removed the ignition cover, are there existing timing marks to retime for the dyna?

      Thank you for the info!

I prefer the Dyna over old igniters.

There's a DS3-1 Ignition on Amazon. Would that be the same as this DS3-2? Thanks for the help!!

EDIT- The DS3-1 is for early points ignition (KD) and DS3-2 is for later points and electronic ignition (Nippondenso).

I am ordering this and will have a fresh install review when I receive it.

            You got it.
The ignition assemblies are the same, but the magnetic rotors are different heights and the magnet positions are a touch different.

Make sure your mechanical advancer unit, KD or ND, matches the ignition you order.

Thanks, my ignition is the ND. I will go with the -2.
