I was watching TV and an advert for AliExpress came on. I thought I'll try !
    t
immediately impressed as they have some dimensions on the starters and for the first time I found one with what dimensions are there are the same as mine

      it's worth a risk ...
only is number of splines on starter to engine cogs
      and
      the rear bolt holes .....

Ok this is good research. Great research. Fabulous research.

          a) to find a number for the superseded starter
31100-11410 (the original ) superseded by 31100-11D00 on partzila

and then of course finding it on good old AliExpress!

So it is all but solved bar fitting.

          issues :
A few days before I have ordered off AliExpress one that is so so so similar but did not have any serial number - I didn't at that time know of it.
I looked hard at the very one posted too.

          Way forward:
I reckon the one I ordered is same but will confirm in a few days when it arrives.
          if not
I reckon order this other option that has to be correct.

The bottom line is we (and I mean we) are close to sorting this.
          Thanks all. Will update.

And damn my serial number is : 31100-06C00

But so similar dimensions to mine. Too late now and will wait to see if I'm.lucky ..... and if China will exchange ....

            update:
I found one of suggested with stats. the only difference seems to be 4mm in overall length. of stats shown.
I attach pic of the 31100-11D00
damn can't attach for some reason but if look AliExpress can see em.

anyway with a bit of engineering mine may fit will update

              Starter motor arrived from china.
remember I ordered via an incorrect serial number
              31100-06c00
not knowing the existence of the new superseded part number . 31100-11d00

so arrived 33£ quick from china but doesn't fit.
this really only the spindle with splines on was too thin. 11mm when it needs to be 15mm.

So asked if they can send correct and if I can return .
unlikely coming all the way from.china.
I have to say mind I am enourmously impressed with the speed to get here and Comms from company.

anyway whatever happens currently 33£ down and a hell of a lot of time ....

(will await decision but think knowing new part number I can order off eBay UK)

I never trusted those communists. Though I did recently buy a Chinese made Epiphone Casino (The Beatles favorite guitar).

Domestic made costs 4X as much. And is only 3X better.

I will have to bite the bullet and get one from china.
                    - 31100-11d00
and hope it is made to the correct size . it should be but I have no faith anymore ordering parts. partly my own fault.
                    another 50£ risk.

if not then it becomes impossible to get some important parts for my gsx250.
I am gonna assume this is not the case .

hell keeping these non run of the mill bikes going is not easy !

imagine having to take the bike to a garage !!!!!
I am lucky I am the robot with all the tools and the GS resources forum is the garage brain.

have found a place in china that actually measures the starter .
                      the one that superseded mine.
                      31100-11d00

massive issues still as it is not the same or their measuring is poor. it remains I cannot be sure of a replacement for my starter motor exists.
                      pic of their.measuring picture

the spindle is 2 millimetres out in diameter. too thin.

my original is 14mm. theirs looks like 12.5mm
the body which fits into the housing is also a few.milimeters out. if I assume their measuring tool is out it may fit.
                      the other measurements will fit.

the incorrect one I have is similar but has a spindle of 11mm. so would not even engage (I didn't spin it up in the bike though )
it is not a snug fit either like an original.

so do I risk buying the one that superseded mine that by measurement is not right ?

                        Stop the clock !
YES - I am an idiot .... So my faith and Comms with this particular Chinese firm is restored.

If you look at there guage it does indeed sag 14mm ! it was me reading it wrong ! (I have a digital guage ....)

so we are back on .

after this I am going to have a long rest from all mechanical issues.
                        so 31100-11d00
seems to be ok as partzila say .... will order .

I gota say I miss my GSX. So good to return to being 17 again when burning about. The GSX was my second ever bike (I call it thus even though it's a donor dragged from a hedge and some of my original bits on it)

You know I have the first bike I ever bought still - my rd250d 1977 (not bought new )
That starts after a winter 3 rd kick .
Hell that makes me smile taking that out.

But calm yourselves ! the Chinese starter is almost here for the test and to all GSX owners, probably only me left we will have a future proof option .
