    1982 GS750T - R/R Connector Help Required...

    Hello there,

I've finished off Suzy's back end for now:

New rear tire, chain, sprockets, fixings, rust removal, repaint, and so on.

Now, it's time to reconnect the engine to the various electrical wires and cables I disconnected it from to remove it from the frame.

    Anyway...

...It's time to fix my 'solution' for not being able to disconnect the three yellow wires from the R/R. Cutting them seemed like a good idea at the time.

    01-cutwires.jpg

    I'm double stuck.

    1. I don't know how to get the cables out of the connector without cutting them
    2. I don't know what type of replacement connector I need to get.

The usual SH775 R/R has two connectors and replacement kits are easy enough to find.

    Mine is a SH555-12 and I can't find 6-pin replacement connectors for this R/R.

    Can anyone help?

I had a look on the Rectifier/Regulator replacement list post.

And the SH555-12 is listed in black as Kawasaki GVZ 600R Shindengen SH555-12 6.12

    12amps with 6 pins I'm guessing.

Though I've never heard of a Kawasaki GVZ (GPZ?)

Does anyone know if this R/R is going to last?

Or should I bite the bullet now and search for a reasonably priced SH775?

    Thanks.

I just purchased an SH775 from eBay from a 2020 Sea-Doo that is absolutely flawless. Haven't wired it up yet, so crossing my fingers that it works. Got it for $40 with free shipping. Search for "710001103"

You got a good deal. They've been going up.

For wiring up the stator to the SH775 you should use something like this Triumph connector.
Triumph Link Lead, Regulator (T2500676) is used in Starter & Alternator assembly for 2011 Triumph Street Triple, Starter & Alternator assembly for 2012 Triumph Street Triple R, Starter & Alternator assembly for 2012 Triumph Street Triple, Starter & Alternator assembly for 0000 Triumph Street Triple > 560476 and Starter & Alternator assembly for 0000 Triumph Street Triple R > 560476

Cut off these ends. Put good new bullet or spade connectors to three Stator wires and the positive red (brown on the Triumph harness), and new lug for the Black Negative and attach to good ground or direct to battery neg (-).

          Follow this diagram from Nessism:

If you want to see how I mounted and wired mine click the Charging system sorted link in my signature.

So the SH555-12 is not good?

Looking on eBay for a SH775 (Used) cost is £187!

I was reading the Stator Papers P02 and the author mentions his Electrex R/R.

A quick Google search reveals Electrex is in the UK and --> This <-- for £80 should fit my 1982 GS750T

Has anyone used an Electrex R/R?

Sorry, Sam. No experience with the SH555-12. It couldn't tell you if it's good or not, or even if it's a Shunt or Series type, SH775 is definitely a Series type and that is mostly the reason why it's better than the original Shunt type. You'd have to dig deeper into the knowledgebase for a more in-depth explanation. I'm not an electrical engineer. As for the Stator Papers, I could be wrong, but believe they were written before the SH775 became a popular, nearly bullet-proof, replacement for stock.

Is your photo missing some wiring & connectors...?

THe suzuki GS stators that I know have a single bullet connector on each of the three wires, that each connect to bullet connectors on three individual wires.....

Hard to say. The three yellow stator wires are definitely not original, so there’s a newer stator on the bike. That also means the connector block the three cut yellows went into can’t have been originally wired like pictured. It’s possible that is an original block that was depinned and repinned with three new yellows. Not sure. Depinning is easy once you figure one out. The bottom of the spade connector has a tongue that has to be pushed up, then the terminal can be pulled back out of the block. you can see the tongue in this pic. Dedicated depinning tools can be bought, but a very small flat screwdriver will work. I fashioned one by flattening a paper clip.

if there’s a way to do something, someone has likely made a YouTube video. I believe this is the video I watched when I was trying to figure out the same thing. It shows you exactly how to depin this type of connector. This would have good for you to know before you started cutting

OP should study the original wiring diagram.

As the saying goes... A picture paints a 1000 words. Thank you Rich, as always, you're a great resource.

There's lots of things I should've known before doing them LOL.

I've studied it. Many times. All those lines crossing over each other and symbols I don't know the meaning off hurt my head.

Does anyone know of a good online motorcycle electrics course?

I would like to understand this subject better.

                        Thanks everyone.

                        Time to go to work.

Try This (although it is not your exact model) from BikeCliff's website:

The color lines are much easier to follow, plus you can expand it so it's not sow crowded.

Thanks Jim, I was looking for the same one I had saved on my work computer to share with Sam. The only minor difference (sure there are more), is that the T does not have a separate license plate light as shown on the color diagram. Everything else should be very close, if not exactly the same.
