    gs1100 -no spark

Hello--I was heading out for a tour when suddenly my otherwise fine running bike suddenly quit. It restarted after considerable cranking with a backfire. Rode it to my office to pick up maps and then it would not start. When I checked spark it was there for 1 second and then none. Have brand new battery and sometimes it gives me a spark for a second and then none. I wonder if my kickstand switch could be then problem. I am not sure if there is any easy way to check the cdi? Have checked grounds but have not checked kill switch or side stand switch with multimeter. thx Bob

    Hi,

Use the Stator Papers to check your charging system. See the "Electrical Odds and Ends" page on my website for ignition troubleshooting tips.

Is it turning over but not firing? When was the last time you adjusted the valves? Are the carbs clean? Is your tank rusty?

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Check the coils & crank trigger/ignition plate on the right side of the engine. If those all check out check the ignitor next. This is all AFTER you have a FULLY charged battery to start testing with. Ray.
