    highbeam kills bike slowly

so I just spent some money for new tires and of course the bike knows this and went *hey lets break something else now!*

So my bike won't idle with the highbeam on for very long, maybe 10-15 seconds, low beam its 15-20. This is with the bike in gear and the clutch in. In N I can idle with the highbeam on.... after it shuts off it fires right back up no problem idles for a few seconds than shuts back down.

The battery is brand new but it did die the other day after trying to start the bike when it was very cold, basicly it would still turn the bike over but not start it. I had to kick start it and it fired by barely nudging it.

Any ideas? I don't want to spend a bunch of money on this bike. Going to be upgrading next year neways.

and riding with out lights on is dangerouse so no thats not an option.

have you checked the stator pages? Sounds like you are not charging.

      Here's an idea.
Upgrade now, sell the GS to someone who wants it.

lol who said i did not want the bike. its a good bike. just irritating that i fix one thing and something else goes wrong. i have had to spend my new seat money about 3 times now. if you want to give me 10k for it to upgrade go for it. if not well i guess i am stuck saving up for a down payment.

neways. i will check the charging system tomorrow. i just ran it before work and it idled around 1k with lights on. is my idle just set too low maybe?

            Hi,

What bike are we talking about? These bikes are 25 to 30 years old and a lot of them have been abused and neglected. They need lots of TLC and, yes, sometimes this costs money. You pretty much have to go through all of the systems, carbs, electrical, fluids, brakes, etc, and get everything serviceable so that the bike can be returned to its former reliable and bullet-proof state of existence. Visit my website and go to the READ ME page for the necessary steps to achieve GS nirvana.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

            BassCliff
