    Rectifier wiring.

    Wiring diagram shows the W/G wire from the stator going to the light control
    switch
    and returns to the R/R as a W/R wire. Am I reading this right?

    Yep, it's a useless, leftover, trouble-prone wiring loop that does exactly nothing.

    Most everyone bypasses it.



    In Ye Olden Days, its purpose was to take one leg of the stator out of the equation when the headlight was off, so that the regulator wouldn't get overloaded with extra current that wasn't being used. So in pre-1980 bikes, it at least had a use (although you must have the headlight on everywhere in the US), but the loop remained through at least 1984.
