    Bike won't start, no spark?

    Hi all,

    1981 GS1000GL

Not sure where to begin to look for the problem. The bike won't start, and when it does, it won't run for long.

It appears I have two issues going on: Fuel Delivery and No Spark on Right plugs (both)

When I try to start the bike, it will turn over for about 10 seconds with no sputter. Is that too long for a problem not to be electrical? I replaced the plugs all the way around, but noted that the plugs on the right side looked new, where as the other ones looked darker.

The coils look like they have the plug wires fused on with some sort of silicone compound. Is this right?

Can I replace the plug wires or will I have to get two new coils because I can't get the wires off?

    Thanks...

    Hi,

Check your other thread for your "mega-welcome" and follow the maintenance lists contained therein. Note that if you take any shortcuts you will not have much success getting your bike to run well.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

Plug caps pull/twist off the wires. And the plug caps do go bad and are only about $5 apiece.
Wires are not ment to come out of the coils (but some folks do pull out, but not easy to replace).
