    battery help

    i pulled my battery, and added a bit of distilled water. put the battery tender on for a bit, then took the bike for a ride, all peachy keen. next morning, today, battery virtually dead. there was nothing wrong with the battery, aside from maybe losing its charge slowly if not run for a week or so.

    i did the same thing, with the same result, last year. added distilled water, then dead. what am i doing wrong?

    i did just order an agm yusa battery, as i've had it. but still, what is my problem?

    If you have to add water very often at all it is possible something is making your battery get hot, and boil out water. Look on Bikecliff's web site for the stator papers and do the tests for your bike's elec. system. You may have a bigger problem than the battery. Tests are pretty straightforward and should tell you if you have a problem with your R/R or stator. Also clean all the connections on your bike and even consider replacing most of the old bullet connectors. terrylee

      thanks terrylee....i've been thru the stator papers last year, and everything checked out ok.

      once i get the new battery, i'll do it again.

      still, i'm puzzled why a bit of distilled water would kill my batteries. i'm thinking i'm doing something wrong.

        Get an AGM battery .

            follow up question, fellas:

            i figured since my bike is down, i'd take the suggestion and clean up some connections. my r/r was grounded at the back of the battery box, with a little jumper wire from there to the neg terminal. i cleaned up the connections, but cannot for the life of me get the darn nut back in the rear of the battery box.

            so, i re-routed the r/r ground wire so that it goes directly to the neg terminal. from there, i have a ground wire to the engine block. good???

            and is that nut at the back of the battery box necessary? until i can get it back in?

              Electrically speaking a ground is a ground so long as it is grounded it doesn't matter where.
