"Bouncing" tachometer needle

Use two small screwdrivers and a towel to protect the face of the tach. Pry it up. It'll give with no surprises.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Pry off the needle with a dinner fork...just like two flat screwdrivers, but you only need one hand.

.....as a clockmaker and instrument restorer, I can assure you that if you adjust the needle spring in any way then your speedo / tach will be wrecked. You need to clean all the grit out of the gears and lightly lube the moving parts. If the needle is responding slowly, then you need to remove the needle and the dial and clean out the old lube from around the needle bushing support.
