Two holes in the headlight bucket - why?

I am putting a round headlight on my 1981 GS750E. I'll tell why, since I know someone will ask. 1. The factory plastic housing is age cracked on one side. 2. I think it looks better (see 1982 version).

My question is this; Why are there two holes in the back of the housing. The housing, or bucket, is for a GS750.

The best I can guess is that it would allow me to put some wires in, or pass some wires through the bucket.

Please let me what the real answer is. THANKS!

Hey thanks! Now I'll have to figure out how to not bend in the speedo/tach cables too much. It seems pretty tight if I try using the same mounting "ears." I may have to switch them out.

      Thanks again.
