Above are links to a picture of my rotor (top) and my stator (bottom). The stator you can't really tell if it's bad or not by the picture, but I used to book and the stator papers to determine it was bad. My question is about the rotor. At first glance it doesn't look too bad and I don't think it needs to be replaced but since I have it off, I figured I would ask people that know. This is for a 1980 550L btw. I placed a bid on ebay for a supposedly working stator and I will see if the seller goes for my bid. The cheapest I can find it new seems to be about $130. Can anyone here do better should I need it? Thanks in advance!

if you had a honda then i'd be worried about the rotor as they tend to de-magnetize there self.
suzuki does not have that problem.
i'm sure your rotor is fine.

      Hi,

Unless it is damaged, you should not need to replace your rotor.

      Thank you for your indulgence,

Your stator is crispy crittered. Burned up. You can have it rebuilt for $80. Please don't spend $130 for an ebay item, there are better alternatives.
The rotor is merely a magnet, no need to replace it.

Well I decided to buy a used one on ebay that has a 7day money-back guarantee. This way I'm only out $7.50 if it doesn't work. I figure for the cost difference, it's worth a shot. Thanks for the response on the rotor, it's much appreciated! And if this rotor doesn't work I might do a rebuild, really depends on time as I'm moving in two weeks and want to get it all finished up before then. Thanks again!
