    77' GS750 timing mark help

Got a 77' GS750 that I have been getting back on the road.

Long story short I cannot for the life of me find the timing mark on the engine case.
All the reference photos I find show it to the left of the top bolt/screw hole however there is not anything there?
    Am I missing something?
Trying to install a boyer, just cannot get the timing quite right and any time under load the carbs are popping fuel mist back out the intake end.

Any help would be very appreciated.

The timing marks are on the advance mech. some of them had a thin metal plate that had a mark. look for a protruding point on the crankcase
