    Regulator Question

So I followed the stator papers and got dorn to Phase 3 testing the R/R when I kind of got stuck. My system is over-charging, so I already suspected the Regulator. However, the stator papers don't cover checking a system with a separate regulator and rectifier so I wasn't too sure what to check for. I did do the continuity/discontinuity test on the rectifier and everything checked out there. That leaves the regulator as the only thing left, right?

Assuming I'm right here, I've seen a lot of info on swapping the stock unit for more robust Honda units but most of the info I've seen is about the combined R/R's. Can anyone recommend a good replacement regulator or should I stick with the Suzuki OEM?

    Thanks in advance!

If you are overcharging then the stator is probably OK and unless you have some really weird connections issues you have a bad Regulator (the second part of R/R).

A Honda would be a good choice and all of the original connections don't really matter and can be taped back. except for the 6 wires for the Honda.
    • 3 yellow straight to stator
    • Ground (see grounding pic in my thread below)
    • +12V out of R/R (to the R/R out on your original)
    • Reference voltage needs to go to a switched source. Coil relay mod is a good place.

I offer a Honda RR kit that replaces the two piece system with a single sealed unit. I understand it even bolts to the same holes as one of the old units on your bike.

45 dollars delivered and I can ship tomorrow. PM me for details.

        Hi,

For a good inexpensive fix, get one of Mr. duaneage's units and replace the separate regulator and rectifier with a r/r combo unit. It's an easy swap that will help you get rid of some unnecessary wiring.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

Got my new R/R...thanks Duane. Just to double check, it doesn't matter which of the yellow wires go to which of the stator wires since they all output the same voltage, right?

Yes, all three stator output wires are the same. Make sure you have good ground for that green wire coming from your Honda r/r.
