    regulator r/r

i was riding today and i guess my voltage reg kicked the bucket.if i start the bike and pull the positive on the battery shouldnt the bike stay running.i dont have a voltage meter.i read stator pages wealth of info.i dont want to buy meter unless i have to.oh yea its a 79 gs750l.thank you im a newbie i checked all my wiring for bad connections already.the red wire was corroded and i fixed that.and it seemed to work untill today

yes it should stay running----my guess is a bad stator and R/R as one seems to fry the other--i just went through this same thing on my 82 850L--bought a stator and R/R from electrexworld.com in the UK--works great and super fast shipping--also get a new battery or make sure the one you have is good--after doing all this and going by the stator papers everthing was good except voltage drop in the positive lead which means bad connections in the harness causing too much resistance--so i hooked up positive from R/R strait to pos on battery through in line fuse and neg on R/R strait to negative on battery and three yellows on R/R strait to stator--now getting close to 14V of charge when bike is reved up and starts every time--really need to invest in at least a cheap multimeter---search for a thread on here titled ground loops by posplayer--tons of advice and info--mr steve is a big help too--also i ran a ground wire from R/R mount bolt to a frame ground.

            Greetings and Salutations!!

            Hi Mr. kildrm30,

I don't think it's a good idea to run our bike with the battery disconnected as we have a stator and not an alternator. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap multimeter. Just about any $20-$30 meter will do. It makes working on the electrics so much easier. Now let me share some GS lovin'.

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

If there's anything you'd like to know about the Suzuki GS model bikes, and most others actually, you've come to the right place. There's a lot of knowledge and experience here in the community. Come on in and let me say "HOoooowwwDY!"....

If you like your bike, please don't do that.

It's not just "thinking", it's DEFINITE.

DON'T RUN THE BIKE WITHOUT THE BATTERY CONNECTED.

Yes, this needs BIG LETTERS! Without a battery connected, the charging system could likely boost voltage to unpleasant levels - it needs a reference point.
