wire short on wire going to regulator help

Okay so I replaced my stator and i know the r/r is bad and have a new one on the way but while messing around i noticed that one of the wires coming from the stator that goes into the white and green wire(the one that runs to the headlight bucket and back down as white with red to the r/r) was really hot at the connection point and i chased the wire to the headlight bucket to see for a short and noticed the plug that send the power back to the r/r was slightly melted. But here is my question, instead of putting a new wire or finding the short, can i just hook the stator wire the red and white wire going to the r/r seeing how it is technically the same wire just more direct.
this is on a 1982 gs650e.

Hi Mr. gs650e,

Yes, you can cut out that loop to the handlebars if you like. My bike has that loop but has no headlight switch, which makes it a totally useless loop of wire that does nothing more than add extra resistance to the circuit. Connect the three stator output wires directly to the r/r input wires. Let me share some more GS lovin'.

dirty connections have created too much resistance, which has caused your charging system to expire prematurely wasting itself on heating the connections instead of doing the work it was intended for. The red one from the RR to the harness is probably also showing signs of overheating.

I recommend soldering the connections. The plugs are costing you money, it appears.

Yes, that is a common, highly-recommended "modification".

You should still go to that warmed-up connector, take it apart and clean it. In fact, go through the ENTIRE wiring harness, cleaning ALL the connectors, your bike will thank you for it.

well this all started with a short on the ignition wire and i put another regulator on it and still nothing so i am waiting on my fsm to get here and i am gonna pull all the wrap on harness and see if i can find another short somewhere.
