I've handled several Suzuki Nippon Denso RRs with shorted diodes, three parts bikes I bought had bad RRs. I saw one short so bad it popped the main fuse as soon as the bike started. Those things are like time bombs.

An inferior part on a superior motorcycle.

The project 1100GK I have in my garage does exactly that, Duane, and when I unplugged the R/R the bike ran just fine off the battery. I haven't dug into the charging system yet (stator papers), but figured it was either a bad stator or bad R/R. No surprise...

When I finished TheBigRed's bike, we started it and it melted the main fuse instantly. Shorted RR. Weird thing is the bike ran when he tore it apart 5 years before. Fortunately he was in the best garage in the world for RR replacement, I think we did it in about 20 minutes.

I unhooked the red lead and when the AC hit the RR from the stator, there was a dead short between the red and the ground lead I measured with a voltmeter checking for voltage drop across a 47 ohm resistor. And that boy got hot quick, burnt my fingers.

If I get another GS, the OEM RR is coming off before it enters the garage.
