rats, no spark on my new skunk
ok, so the p.o. had a kill switch mounted under the left side cover which killed spark. looked like a simple enough affair, basically like he interrupted the flow through the ground wire (the black with the crimp on bullet end, red and yellow ones in the pic). well i removed the switch and soldered the wire back together plugging it into the receptacle in the picture. i looked in my sevice manual but for the life of me don't know what the red, yellow and black wire originate or go to. no spark? i'm missing something here, suggestions? call the p.o.?Tags: None

upon further investigation seems like three of the connections have new crimp on connectors, red, yellow and black.
the red wire plugs to white, the yellow wire to yellow-black, and the black to a what appears to be what appears to be a blank receptacle that appears to be part of the starter relay wiring .

Yellow/black is for the fuel gauge, White is for various functions including feeding into the contact breakers (points) so that may be the key wire here.Ed

the ground wire was plugged into the circled connection. does that seem correct? or is there another connection for the ground i'm missing?
what is the white wire the red lead plugs into, power? looking at the wiring diagram in my service manual shows no red to white connection. same for the yellow to yellow green.Last edited by Guest; 10-27-2010, 09:23 AM.

Are the Red, White and Black wires from the ignition sensors? If so the red should be for power to the sensors and the black and white wires would supply the switching for one coil each. Ray"Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded" -Yogi Berra

yes that appears to be the case. would the red plug into white? i don't see that on my wiring diagram.yellow looks like it should remain yellow, not plug into yellow/black. the solid black wire, is it a ground?

It's hard to tell much by the pictures but is the black wire something the PO added or is it part of the stock harness? If it's stock it may not be a ground. Grounds are usually black/white. Solid black is usually a turn signal wire. I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know as far as the colors go, just thinking out loud. You're probably going to have to break out a meter and explore a little to see what the purpose is and what they feed or feed off of. Red is the main power wire and white feeds a variety of things like tail lamp and igniter. At least on my 700 that's the way they are.Last edited by Guest; 10-27-2010, 10:18 AM.
