The guy's post lead me to think that HD's are 3 phase. Supporting this thought is that the r/r he bought had both the HD and the CE p/n stamped on it.
Quite awhile ago I seem to recall that someone posted a list of series type r/r's that fit our bikes. Would someone please respond with a link to that post? If memory serves me right, for once, and that list does exist, it'd make it awhole lot easier and cheaper to find a series type reg/rectifier to replace the shunt type on my 1100G.
    Thanks,
    Willie

      Harley/CE regulators

I think this is the one you are remembering. This is why I was asking about using a Harley style Compufire on a friends GS450A. Ray

Thanks Ghost. That was the thread that gave me the impression that CE units are OEM on some HD models that are 3 phase from the factory. Reading the info on the CE site reinforces that thought.
I just now found the link I was looking for though, I think, lol it has a list of what bikes use FET r/r's that can be used on a GS.
        Thanks again,
        Willie

I think most of the Harleys out there today are three phase. The older models are two wire I believe. Compufire makes heavy duty matched aftermarket stator and series R/R kits for Harleys. The Compufire 55402 40A three phase R/R is the only Model that I have seen sold separately. Any of their three phase units would work on the GS bikes, but you would have a useless stator hanging around.

I have one but Im waiting for my back ordered 1100 Katana Rotor to come in. The one I have is cracked & has pieces coming loose in it. Nothing else fits.

I haven't blown a bulb yet since I installed my Compu-Fire. I would have gone through three +50 H-4 bulbs by now with the old system. -$75.00 on the Compu-Fire. It doesn't look so bad now at $105.00 after that savings.

Thanks for reasserting what I thought was the case with regard to HDs being 3 phase. Now, please explain what you meant by having a useless staor hanging around.

When I Got my 55402, that was the only Compu-Fire unit I could find that could be bought separately without the Harley rotor and stator. I was just observing that any of the three phase units would work, but you would have to buy the Harley kit to get them. Things may have changed since I got mine. Glad the tip helped. That 1100G is a nice bike. I finally did my 530 chain conversion, went from a 2.80 ratio to a 2.78. It feels like I shed 150lbs. off the bike.

Absolutely. It runs about 4,500 RPM at 70 where it was 4,000 RPM with the 2.80 ratio. It doesn't seem like much but it puts a lot more useful power where I need it for the kind of riding I do. It's most noticeable in fifth. I used to drive the country roads in fourth, now fifth has plenty of power in the hills and curves. Not as much downshifting is necessary to maintain good power in the curves.

.02 difference in the ratio won't reduce the rpm's that much. Are you sure on the ratios? Something isn't right.

I was going on the information Z1 gave me. 18 tooth front 50 tooth rear. They said stock 630 was 2.8 and the 530 conversion was 2.78. I run 500 more RPM at 70 with the 530 conversion whatever it is..

I can't vote since it is closed, but I just realized it's been over a year since I added the CF 55402 to my red 1000G. Works great- always a steady 14.25 or so while riding, and 13+ @ idle. My voltmeter on this bike is non-digital, so these values are approximate.

I just bought one for the blue 1000G since I'm replacing the fuseblock.

Bump, my Compufire is still working well. I have only ever heard of one of these buring up on a Beull and Compufire replaced it.

No problem with my Cycle Electric other than the increase in curb weight. About 5000km. I'll be putting a compu-fire on my Triumph pre-emptively.
