Starting problem
I have had pod filters fitted on my GS000G 1980 and the carbs rejetted professionally but I'm having big problems starting especially after it stands for a few days. The engine turns but doesn't spark. I am confused about the petcock issue as well. Mine clearly says on and reserve but there is a third position that leaks fuel into the carbs when left on. Can anyone help. It was fine after coming back from rejetting and has had new battery. It is driving me mad.Tags: None

That third position is your prime. Have you checked your fuses with a power light to ensure everything is good there?Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

I've not, no. As you can probably tell I don't know what I'm doing. Is there anything else I should check. When it does start it pops a bit and seems to take ages to idle properly

Beyond checking the charging system, valve clearances, fuel, and fuses I'm not as knowledgeable either so hopefully one of the smarter guys on pods and jetting can speak up.Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Just been and primed it for minute or so and that seemed to work. Still taking ages to idle properly though, so we'll see. Thanks for the advice

If you left petcock on prime overnight, it might leak fuel if carb float needles valves were worn or misadjusted- they should be able to hold fuel back for a few hours at least.1981 gs650L

Greetings and Salutations!!
Hi Mr. ShaunR,
Many here don't put much stock in those "professional" wrenches that work in dealerships and bike shops. It's best to learn to do the work yourself and know that it's done right.
Hard starting when cold is usually indicative of tight valves (if everything else is in order). You'll find the adjustment procedure on my little website. Make sure there are no leaks in your air intake system. In your "mega-welcome" you'll also find a couple of maintenance lists that go a long way in keeping these bike running like new. Now let me share some GS lovin'.
I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.
If there's anything you'd like to know about the Suzuki GS model bikes, and most others actually, you've come to the right place. There's a lot of knowledge and experience here in the community. Come on in and let me say "HOoooowwwDY!"....
Here is your very own magical, mystical, mythical, mind-expanding "mega-welcome". Please take notice of the "Top 10 Common Issues", the Carb Rebuild Series, and the Stator Papers. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you...
