    Spedometer issue

The speedometer has gone in my Suzuki GS 450E 1988. The gears or cogs have gone i think and the speedo no longer movers the needle. when attached to speedo cable it gices off a loud whine and eventually snaps the cable. I was wondering if anyone has a speedometer i could either purchase or whether i could get the speedo refurbished.

    Thanks
    Hamish

yeah, that sounds like a failure internally. while you CAN have speedometers refurbished to retain original, or near the actual mileage, it is FAR from cost effective. the last place I looked at wanted $300 to replace ONE needle and ONE little plastic gear. I said screw it I'm putting an RD speedometer on my bike.

      Hamish,

      Welcome to GSR.

You have postied this in the electrical section. Might get more response in other section.

Maybe most cost effective option would be to see if you can find a used one on Ebay. If it looks the same, it probably is the same.

Have seen other people say that a bicycle speedometer will work. Are called "computers" in the bicycle catalogs. Need to mount a magnet on the wheel somewhere.
