You could potentially take the backing plate from the 16 valve, fill all of the various screw holes and then mount the pickups from the 8 valve ignition. But its easier to just make a new plate out of aluminum, as I recall. You could certainly do that and then use the 8 valve pickups and an 8 valve ignitor setup.
What I never did finalize was whether running the 16 valve engine on a system designed for 8 valve ignition (Dyna S) curve had any negative effects....probably had some

I don't remember how many screws hold my ignition plate, but I installed a Dyna S on my 16 valve this past summer. Works awesome.

I think the 8v mech advance might pull too much advance for the 16v or maybe I have it the wrong way round.
You could modify the stops to restrict or add more advance though and even change the springs if necessary to bring the advance in faster or slower....
A Dyna 2000 could also be made to fit and has electronic advance curves for 8v and 16v on board plus the latest one are programmable.
I would think you could also use the ignition from the 83-750 or the 700 models too but Dyna 2000 is probably cheaper and easier!1980 GS1000G - Sold
