    Another plug to check closely

While stripping my '83 GS1100E for the front suspension today, I discovered a trouble spot that owners of similar models might want to check soon!
Inside the head-light housing, I found this:

I had to tear the plastic surrounding the one half off to gain access to separate them!

A possible reason for the bike getting parked.

A warning to all I guess. I would take this appart and get one of them way cool GM weather pak connectors in its place.

            Hi,

Good catch. Oxidation is not always visible but can cause resistance and heat buildup. Mr. JEEPRUSTY gives good advice. Also CLICK HERE for more cleaning and repair suggestions.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

There was a thread here a few days ago where Ed, I think it was, spoke about running your main fuse through a relay, thus taking the load off the ignition, maybe have a look for it.
Taking the load off the ignition would prevent that.

Is that the plug that one phase of the alternator is routed through?
My 1100G had a meltdown in exactly the same way.The alternator phase now does not go through that part of the harness anymore!
