'80 GS1100E Headlight Switch

So in attempting to find the reason why my lights sometime cut out I decided to pull the left handlebar switch apart and make sure the contacts looked ok. I know switches can have a lot of little parts in them so I tried as best I could not to disturb anything but alas, by the time the switch was apart everything had fallen out of place.

The question- I've pieced the high/low beam assembly back together. The horn is easy also. The turn signal function is more complicated and I have a myriad of springs and one ball bearing without a home. My turn signals don't work anyways so can I leave all of the turn signal assembly out of the switch? That leaves just the sliding mechanism for high and low beam.

Yes it's kind of half assed to have the signals not working but I'm not in the position to buy a new switch. Should the headlight still work ok?

well in the future you should open the switch houseing inside a plasitc bag so you dont lose anything and second have the diagram on how to put it back together, If you dont want the turn signals to ever work again then i see no reason that the headlight and horn shouldnt work without you putting the turn signal switch back together. when you say lights cut outm do you mean headlight or all lights on the bike?

As Scorpion asked, just which lights are cutting out? And if you ride on the street, you really should fix your turnsignals. Poke around here and you'll discover poor wiring connections are very common.
Used switches are cheap off ebay- I just bought one for 4 bucks. Lots of models share same switch design, though the wiring/plugs might be different. Does your current switch still have on/off for headlight?

Im not sure if your Bike has auto cancel signals.

Mine does. I had to figure out where all the parts went the hard way.
