The Dyna S is a spark trigger device that requires use of your original mechanical spark advance unit. It replaces both the signal generators and the ignitor box on bikes that came with electronic ignition, or the points on bikes that didn't. Most early GS bikes accept this unit. The 2000 has the spark advance curve built into the electronics, and is even programmable to allow different different curves to be used. Suzuki started getting rid of the advance unit on certain models in 1982, and most of the 3rd generation GS bikes had this type of ignition so you couldn't use a Dyna S even if you wanted to, however a 2000 could be installed on an early bike as long as the advance unit is disabled in some way.

The Dyna S has it's own operating system & is all built into that small plate & is very simple to just do one job. You can remove the factory CDI box when using just the S! The 2000 is more diverse, with more features & different ignition curves built into it. If you are on a budget & just want your bike to run get the S. If you have a little more money & want more features get the 2000. The 2000 also has a built in start retard so you can use the billet ignition rotor if you want. The S requires you use the factory mechanical advancer. Both are GREAT products that I think are definitely worth the money! You just need to choose the one that best suits your needs & budget. Plus, I know all the guys that work there & they are all GOOD people!!! Ray.

What the others have said, plus the 2000 has a tachometer output, momentary kill switch capabilities for use with a quick shifter, and it allows the use of lower impedance coils for more SPARK.

Just finished the Dyna 2000 install with Dyna 2.2 coils, and coil relay mod. Nice fat spark with 12.9 volts at the coils.
