Revs up to 5000 then bogs dowm

Just got a criagslist special, 1982 GS650G for a parts bike. The PO had rebuilt the carbs, bike runs, but poorly. I took the carbs off my (running very well GS650G) bike and put them on. The bike ran much better at low rpms but was back firing at low rpms. I checked the voltage at the coil and it was 9.4 ish. I ran a new wire from battery to coils 12.4 volt ish now. Bike ran great up to about 5000rpms and then bogs down really bad, if I rev it up slowly I can get it past the bogging spot and it will rev up to 7000rpms, but it run poorly. BTW It has K&N Pods with no airbox. I all so checked the centrifugal advance, it moves freely.
    Thanks!
    Will

Shouldn't the carbs be synced to the bike they are on? I will probably bet you resync the carbs with the 82 and it might straighten up some. May have to look at rejetting too.

That is because pods require re-jetting. The new carbs will need cleaning, O rings, gaskets, bench sync and synchronizing on the bike with a manometer. The new bike will need valve adjustment, possible boots, but new O rings. Do yourself a big favor and stay with the stock configuration if you can. re-jetting for pods is a PITA.

The new bike is for parts. I was trying to get it running to the point where I could beat on the gear box. I need a good second gear. I did end up replacing two of the intake boots and orings to get it running. The engine had a low sounding rattle in it at low idle ,kind of like a crankshaft bearing sound. Well, so far I have found that the PO had messed with the clutch and the nut that holds the clutch together was loose and the washer had been reused. The stator is no good, and had melted some connectors in the head lamp. Have yet to test the R/R, but can't imagine it being any good. The cams look good, and second gear is good! Over all the bike is in good shape ,looking like its been stored out of the sun for most of its life. I would restore it, but the DMV fees are too high, plus I already have two others!

Where is this bike? Someone else on here may need it.

It is in Northern Cal. But I Need it! Lots of good parts! The exhaust looks all most new! Very little UV damage over all! Sorry it's mine!

wow, the title is almost identical to the one I posted earlier today !

The bike will idle fine but when I rev it up to about 5500 RPM and let go of the throttle it bogs down and dies. Is that what happens with your bike too ? Like you I didn't put on the airbox just yet. When you put the airbox on, did it rev up fine after that ?

This was mentioned a few times in your thread too, Mr. Mak.
