Well I had to use .35mm at the widest point. Mine wasnt in thousands of an inch? I'll double check that when I get home tonight.
Guess if I get a nice dyna s no points gap to set! I'm going to keep working to get a baseline first and then install the upgrade.
Thanks,

Double check the gap and try again
And remember to rotate the crank clockwise as you test1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Ok static is now good but still no combustion on 2-3.(I made sure points were flat with a points file and then reset the gap again to get the static set for anyone that has an issue with static timing)
I do have sparking in the dim light from the points. Swapped plugs around and made sure they weren't too wet with fuel. 2-3 cylinder/exhaust are still not getting hot.
FYI- still getting around to double checking with a timing light but was guessing it should run on the static set up.Last edited by Guest; 02-03-2011, 12:00 PM.

Dyna S then start again?
Thanks

I'm no fan of points - IMHO they're an ancient technology designed to deteriorate from the moment you get them set.
But, you might want to pick up a condensor and confirm that the bike works. Or switch the condensor wires at the points ,if possible
I am a big fan of the Dyna S, having had one for 25 years. You can just order one if you're confident that you've solved the problem. Particularly after you price out new points and condensors.1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Not confident that I've solved it but, confident that eventually I'll need a Dyna S and the old points/cond. set up is $25 bucks I'd waste if that fixes it since I would then immediately upgrade to Dyna S to avoid this again! So I thought an upgrade was in order. The old stuff was way out of whack and I had to use my old points file heavily to get the points flat. They were both sparking. I'll swap condensors and try that. If it maintains the circuit till the flash is gone then It may still be slightly out of time from that? I'd like to upgrade and just cross my fingers I guess.

Dyna S was a breeze to install and I have it dynamically timed right on the money. Dyna and Z1 enterprises rock!
2&3 are still not firing. I'm thinking valve adjustment next? Guess that could be so far out they wouldnt fire. Also noticed the tach wasnt moving with the RPMs accurately?
