Looking for a smaller battery, will this work?

Im currently looking for a smaller battery for my GS1000 cafe so I can change the shape of the seat. Currently Im running a ES14BS battery which has the following specs:

Voltage : 12
Amp Hours: 14
CCA: 200

The new battery Im looking at is a ETX4LBS and has the following specs:

Voltage: 12
Amp Hours: 12
CCA: 200

My bike starts reliably on the first try, every time. So what say ye, will it work or no? Drawbacks?

Only 2 amp hours less and it's small enough for you?

That's not really that much of a difference.

At least the cranking amps are the same.

seems the issue is that if they are comparable in cranking amps then fine..what your looking for realy is case sizing so you can squeeze it in.

Look up anti gravity batteries, similar to what gsryder posted, but i think they are a little smaller and they can start a 4 cylinder car.

they dont say it but I would bet a cup of coffee they are using the same batteries. A123 systems I believe is the only manufacturer of those cells.

Who ever you get them from just make sure they are good cells. Anti gravity looks pretty legit at a glance.

Ive seen those other batteries that were posted near the top but Im not looking to spend $100+ on a battery. I dont need the space that bad.

They dont have as much cranking time as lead acid batteries but if your bike doesnt start right away you have other issues and they are expensive those cells range from $20.00 a piece and up. I think the liter bikes you need a 8 cell if my memory serves me.

But no catch really just modern technology. Not that I am some tech guy or anything but battery tech is always advancing for phones, lap tops, etc. they also use these batteries in the dewalt 18v cordless drills. My guess is in the next few years as the technology advances and the price comes down you will start seeing these allot more. I love my old bike and my old truck but sometimes you just gotta keep up with new tech.

It’s the same battery used in Chinese 50cc scooters and mini ATVs.
4L-bs = 3ah
5L-bs = 4ah
7L-bs = 6ah
Parts Unlimited has some typos on the website. The RT4L-BS is a YTX4L-BS made by Yuasa for Parts Unlimited.
Get one and try it. It may start your bike as long as you don’t wind on it like you could if you foul a plug, hit reserve, or flood your bike. Good luck.
