Remove the allen head bolt in the center and then the signal generator plate will come off next.Ed

I tried, which thread is it? Damn thing won't budge. Also I was hoping to get a reply from you but am I safe in removing the oil hoses from the cooler with oil in the engine before pulling it?

One of those allen head socket adapters may help get the bolt out.
As for the oil cooler, you may loose some oil but I don't think it will be much.Ed

The allen bolt in the center has a normal thread -- righty-tighty lefty-loosey. Put the bike in gear and step on the rear brake to keep the engine from spinning.
It is wearing Loctite, so heating the bolt should help break it loose.
I normally just use an air impact, but you do need a 6mm impact rated bit, which can be a little difficult to find.Last edited by bwringer; 02-19-2011, 07:40 PM.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
