Won't work. Your bike doesn't have mechanical advance.

Can't he put a mechanical advance unit on the end of crank and then use the Dyna-S?
If not, the only answer would be the Dyna 2000, which is way, way more than he needs, and way, way too expensive for what it would deliver for a stock street bike.

Its not stock but that doesn't matter..I just wanted to get rid of the stock ignition. Also i am going to build a 1100 bike and use it on that bike.I didn`t think the 2000 would work with my bike..I can pick up a 2000 for cheap..Why would that be different then the dyna s?

The 2000 is programable. You can change the advance curve if you need to. It is really for race bikes, not steet bikes. If you can get one cheap, go for it, but just realize it takes several pieces. What you would need is this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
It is the crank trigger with harness, and the external programmable module.
            Unfortunately, Dynatek's web site: http://www.dynaonline.com/skins/prod...tbikes/dyna_s/
is one of the most useless I have seen lately, w/o allowing you to enter your model to find out what fits. Z1Enterprises sells the 2000 for the 750, so they must think it will fit : http://www.z1enterprises.com/catalog...750ED-1983-IG0
Your bike has an electronic advance, that is the external ignitor has the advance curve. IDK about the 750s, but I do know that an 83 1100L, which also has an electronic advance, can be changed by installing a mechanical advance on the end of the crank and then a Dyna S can be used.
Personally, I would call Z1 and ask them. They are very knowledgeable, helpful, and are great to deal with.

If you can pick up a Dyna 2000 for cheap (normally ~$400) that's compatible with your bike, do it. The Dyna 2K has the advance curve built into it - just like your stock ignition - so no need to retrofit the mechanical advance from an older bike. As noted, make sure you get all the pieces.

              DDK3-2 DYNA 2000 IGNITIONS - 4 CYLINDER for Suzuki 1977-1981 GS 550, 750, 850 $399.99

Several folks on eBay with new ones for <$300.

The eBay link I prpvided shows it for $266 with free shipping. However, also on eBay is the Dyna S for $123 : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
You can pick up a mechanical advance unit for next to nothing. Personally, I would buy the cheaper unit if it would fit. The programmable advance is really for bikes that need to change the curve depending on track conditions, weather conditions, fuel, etc. For a street bike, you normally set it once (to near factory settings) and forget it.

Big IF. The 3rd generation 750 was never sold with a mechanical advance type ignition so retrofitting one from a different model is unlikely.

We're betting that the DDK3-2 Dyna 2000 would work even though the officially listed year stops at 81. The DS3-2 works on my 82 550 even though it says only until 81. Heck, GS650s are not listed at all but it's been known to work on those (one just has to modify the backing plate to make room for the oil sender). If there's nothing wrong with your current ignition then that's just gambling money for no particular gain - even if you can get a Dyna 2000 for cheap - though you may be able to use that 2000 on your GS1100 instead.

If your current ignition was dead I'd say it would be worth a shot.

Even if you can retrofit a mechanical advance onto your bike and give Dyna S a shot, the advance will not be the same and your bike will run differently. The mechanical advance only works up to about 2500 RPM, where the ignitor advance keeps going past 4000 RPM IIRC. You may have to advance your timing at idle to not lose power in the higher RPM ranges.

Lots of threads and info on this in the past - forum search is your friend.

Thanks for all of your help.I think i will leave the stock system until it breaks.I think i will pick up the 2000 anyways as i can get it cheap.Do you think putting dyna coils on my bike is worth it or just leave the stock ones?.

If you are going to install the 2000 (be sure and get that plate) I would suggest getting both the Dyna coils and matching wires.
I see you are in BC so I don't know where the best prices would be for those. eBay has the coils for ~125 U.S., but I don't think I have seen the wires there. Z1 has both, but their prices a tad higher. But their service is fantastic.
Can you tell us what "cheap" is, exactly? Curious minds want to know.

I think you can ?? You will need a mechanical advance unit. You will have to remove about .010-.020in from the advance unit circumference so it will sit flush in the crank recess, will have to make a spacer for the cover, make your own timing marks
