    Ignition fuse blowout - '83 GS1100ES

Just got the bike out of winter storage, fired up, ran well. After 10min, lost power, no electrical working, limped home and found the ignition fuse was blown.

Intalled a new fuse, bike started, ran rough, again no power and another blown fuse. WIth a new fuse, all igntion lights are on but the moment the bike starts, fuse blows.

Any ideas where I need to start looking.

Look at the wiring under the tank to see if you can find where mice have chewed the harness.

If you put new fuse in and turn igntion on (but don't start), will fuse blow ? If your setup is like mine, power from ignition fuse goes to kill switch, on to start button and then to coils and the ignitor. Since it ran at first, and then died, I'd suspect the kill switch wiring first.

All of the above and then the main power (O&w colour I believe) leading into the fuse block connector. That connector gets hot, melts and then the power lead makes intermitant connection and pops the fuse. Did it on my ES. Also if you've removed the horns and the wires are grounding out on the frame or somewhere else (or rats/mice have chewed em) it will pop you Ign and or gauge fuses.

              Thanks guys - Success!!

              All good help guys.

It turned out to be a combo of mice chewing into two stator wires which crossed against eachother yesterday and a fuse box that need to have the terminals cleaned up.
