Faulty Ignitior? How can I test it?
Ok I have a 1082 gs550l and I think my ignitior is bad. So I tested the plugs that goes into the ignitor and im geting like 0.12v thru black/blue, brown and green/white but on the other 3 there hot. Now when I plug it into the ignitor all wires are hot making both of my coils have positive thru all four wires. I have two of the gs550 exact year one seriel number apart so I swapped ignitiors and still the same thing. I mean they are 29years old. Is there a way to put an ohm load or something on the ignitors to test them?
Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question but I do know the factory service manual has a section on how to check the ignitor. Did you read this yet?Ed
To measure is to know.

This is for an '85 700, you might be able to use the same tests for your bike.
Here's how to check the ignitor. Remove spark plugs 1 & 2 and ground them to the motor so they will fire when they get power. With the ignitor facing you, the plug on the right side of the ignitor is where the signal generator plug fits. The two terminals on the right side of that portion of the ignitor will be pin 1 at the front and pin 2 at the back. The two left pins will be pin 3 in front and pin 4 at the back. Turn the ignition switch on. With a multitester set a the X1 ohm range put the + probe on pin 2 and the - probe on pin 1. Plug number 1 should fire. Next put the + probe on pin 4 and the - probe on pin 3. Plug number 2 should fire. If this happens the ignitor is good and the signal generators are suspect.

Ok so I hooked the ground side of a test light to the frame then touched the positive side to the ground on the ignitor. At 1st it did not light up but as soon as I touched the ground from the ignitor to an actual ground on the frame my test light then lights up. All it takes is me tapping the ignitor ground to the frame the pulling it off and it stays positive for about 2 seconds then the test light stops lighting up. That to me makes me feel that the ignitor is bad. What do yall think?
