    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

burning up bulbs in new tailight setup

the problem: I keep burning up the running light element in the 1157 bulbs (every 5 to 10 days), a coworker says they brighten as I accelerate. The brake lights are slow to come on but turn signals work fine.
Where should I start? Im not real good with electronics sooo... a little help please?

and hows it look, I am going to put a backing plate behind them to help hide the wires and fill the gap.
 
Hi,

It sounds like your regulator is not regulating properly. Do you have separate rectifier and regulator units? Perhaps a run through the Stator Papers is in order.

Oh no, a trailer lighting gizmo! plenty of chances to miswire, but check your charging system first- I'd disconnect my lighting circuit to do the testing ,just in case.
 
all original wiring, electronics with the exception of the flasher relay as far as I can tell, up to the tailpeice where the "gizmo" was a straight forward wire in once I discovered that I had redundant factory grounding.

got the fluke meter out, printed off the stator papers and the quick check, now if only it would stop raining...(no garage)

Raining there too! In Maine, we have just about forgot that there is a sun. Yeah, don't check AC voltages when standing in puddles- you might get unusual results.
 
UPDATE: After replacing the r/r and getting all good reads with the voltmeter I was still burning bulbs. so after a great many headaches I got a bright Idea and turned the lights over and viola! problem solved. It seems that 1157 bulbs dont like to be mounted upside down, only upright or horizontal. who knew?
