Battery question.

So I don't have a battery for my GS yet. I know on my quad all I had to do was install a small capacitor and I could kick it over and have it run without the battery. I'll put one in eventually (g/f doesn't want to kick start, I say she's a wimp) but for the interim do I have any sort of battery-less options?

You might want to do a search on here as I've seen this question come up a few times (just don't remember all the answers). Short and sweet though - I doubt it since there's not a whole lot of other options to run your electrics unless you have a great big mouse and wheel some place.

That's what the capacitor would be for. Basically all a battery is, is a storage/distribution device for the electricity generated by the stator. In theory, I should be able to eliminate the battery and figure out some system to hold a consistent 12-13v and whatever the required amperage to run the engine is. I would just have to kick it over a couple of times to build up enough juice to fire the plugs.

Or I could buy a battery... lol

EDIT: Little bit of research says that the stator won't work without the magnetic resistance of a battery on the receiving end. Oh well.

Sorry, too much technical info swirling around in my brain. Not sure I understand it entirely. The stator needs current from the battery in order for the coils to fire? The coils have to maintain a certain resistance to run right, and eliminating the constant 12v messes with it? Sounds kind of wonky to me, but the general consensus is that you need to have some form of 12v power supply for anything to kick on. Someone on the CB forums used a 12v drill battery and a kick starter.
