In what condition should I expect the stator!?

Went for a good ride this afternoon.

A couple hours in, I noticed my blinkers were not working. Additionally my gauge lights were very dim, and once back in town, stop lights became my worst enemy, as voltage dropped with a drained battery.

Disconnected the stator leads and the first test between 2 leads :

    Hi,

The resistance reading between legs is supposed to be 0.5 - 2.0 ohms or so. I'd like to see that stator once you get it out.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Stater looked pretty good, but when iturned it over one of the wires connecting to the coils had shorted out and burned through the wrap.

Actually, it does not look pretty good. Where it is dark, it should be light. Even without the short, that stator is toast. With no marmalade, please.
              Good catch.

Who made this stator- what's with the hollowed out laminations? big gap for magnetic field to leap thru.

Not sure. I figured it was stock since all the other the other electrics were stock.

Can't make assumption about one thing because of another.

Best clue about originality: what color(s) were the wires?

                      Color coded wires,

                      Not all yellow like aftermarket.

If you do a continuity test at the points on the near side of the stator, removing the wires, does the thing fail?

Can the soldering simply have failed? This would leave a good stator maybe. The resin coating looks fine to me, no cracks or dreadful burns.
