Thanks folks. The real proof will be when it hits the road and I can test performance but I'm feeling confident it will run well. Its just a pity I don't have a stock 550 that I can compare it too. I'll have to look into that.

In the meanwhile I am writing a tutorial for posting on Cliff's site which I will have done in a day or two. Hopefully that will help a few other folks with dead 550s.

I appreciate all the help, guidance and encouragement from all the great folks on this forum, I could not have done this with out you all.

        Cheers,

Ah, I can't believe it, its a scam, he's got the plugs out and turning it over with a socket on a drill on the other side.

Actually, I've got a cage of hamsters running on a treadmill on the other side.

Dang now you've busted my scheme to become a thousandaire selling bogus 550 ignition fixes. Now I'll have to go back to the old Nigerian Cheque Kiting scheme to make my retirement fund

Hahahaha, pleasure, no seriously, well done, always good to see alternative answers to problems from people who can think outside the box and have the determination to see it through, congrats.
So are you going to become the God send of all 550 riders and offer up kits ala Duane and his rectifers? Could be some good beer money in it.

Nah.....too lazy for that. I'll post the tutorial and then its every man (or woman) for themselves. In terms of complexity, its not difficult but you do need a modicum of fabricating skills and some power tools ( at least a dremel tool). I'd rate it about a 4 on the "can do" scale. The hardest part of the whole shebang is getting the coils and rotor off as they are glued in with Locktite or the Zuk equivalent. Ater 28 years its tough stuff.

I'm still not sure if its going to be 100% successful as I will have to check the on road performance. That will be the true test and only then can it be confirmed a success.

I do appreciate the kind words but any skill I have I inherited from my dad who was an engineer (something the Scots are known for it seems) and a known radical thinker and problem solver. Oddly, I've never really shown much of this aptitude until recently. Must be the repaired heart pushing more blood to the brain.

I guess the old saw about when there's a will there's always a way is also true. Being a Scot I was also brought up to be frugal and I guess I was on a quest for the least cost option and this was the "will" that drove me on

Its fun anyway and a way of keeping the brain healthy. Now if I can only scheme up a way to have it run on biodeisel.......that would be some serious bodging my friends and worthy of high praise.

                Cheers,
                Spyug
