Can anyone help with a simplified wiring diagram for this bike? The previous owner had an additional starting switch put in and some of the wiring does not look the best, so needless to say I was thinking of opening up the wiring harness and rewiring the bike. Help? Suggestions? Im a newb at this but I can read a wiring diagram...

Did you get a welcome from Basscliff yet? If so follow the link he gave you to his site.

yes I did....but I will go back through and take a look...im just kinda feeling lost right now because no shops in town will even look at it because of the age of the bikes so I am on my own with this one!! (well, except for you guys of course!!)

Being on your own is the best place to be with these bikes. Take a deep breath, do as much troubleshooting on your own as possible, ask question here, and you'll get that bike to run just right.

Edited to add: Have you looked on Ebay for another wiring harness for your bike? It might be best to start completely over from scratch.

Hey, that's a familiar bike there

I believe there's a wiring diagram in the service manual on BC's site. If not (or if you'd just like another take), PM me and I'll scan the one out of the Clymer manual for you. Are you having specific issues?

I had actually just picked up another wiring harness from a bike salvage yard the other day but have not gotten a chance to mess with it.

Im not having specific issues with it other than I need to reconnect everything and make sure it all works. I had taken off the airbox and such and replaced with some K&N filters after I had taken apart the carbs and soaked. However I am not putting the stock airbox or battery box back on because I had made some modifications so some of my mounting points for my rectifier and starter relay have to be adjusted.

Also I am only using a rear tail light/running light. I am not having turn signals so this should help with rewiring b/c there is less to consider??

could this be adapted to having my nuetral and oil lights, speedometer and my gear position lamp?

Well, I'm sure it could, well kind of anyway. Are you hell-bent on starting from scratch? My guess is that you're going to cafe this bike or something similar? Or are we just trying to re-wire to get it to run? It's probably going to be a lot easier just to fix what's broken. Some thoughts:

Losing the signals will let you drop 2 wires. Here in VA we have safety inspections and I doubt a road bike originally equipped with turn signals would pass without them, but I'll leave that to your discretion.

The diagram you linked to has a 3-wire ignition system. You can get there by going with a Dyna S ignition. If you stay with the stock ignition you have a 7-wire connection for the igniter: 3 to coils, 3 from sig gen, and 1 ground.

The speedometer should be mechanical on your bike. If you're just talking about the speedo lamp, as long as you apply switched +12V at the right place of course you can keep it.

Pretty much the same story with the gear/neutral indicators. There's a gear selector rotating switch under the clutch cover with 7 wires leading to the cluster. One of the 7 wires will be grounded depending upon which gear you're in (or neutral). Again, apply switched +12V to the right place on the cluster and keep that intact, you should be OK to keep your gear indicators.

If you're going to run pods, please think about installing a Dynojet kit for your carbs.

Yes indeed I am going with a bobber kind of mod.

Im hell bent on keeping it simple and easy for a beginner to do!! I just want to get this bike up and running...and in a hurry!!

Im in MO and if I am not mistaken its either all or none with turn signals.

Yes I was just talking about the lamp with the speedo and I dont even need the oil and nuetral lights if that makes things easier/faster.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RC-2382 these are the filters I am running (I had read somewhere in here ab a member using these and not needing to rejet, but I am prepared to do so if need be!)
