inherited my dads gs850, wont rev above 3k

its an 82, had been sitting properly stored for about 3 yrs, i bought a new battery, cleaned the carbs, went to start it and it fired right up, but wont rev above 3000 rpm or so, ive replaced the cdi box, replaced the coil, what elser should i check? bike has 17k miles, no signs of molestation on the harness or any rigged up areas, any advice would be great, thanks!

Yes. Without the restriction of the airbox there's not enough vacuum to pull the required fuel.

Yeah, hold off buying stuff till you know what's wrong! You're fortunate to get a bike with a known history.
