    Where do these wires go?

Okay I have been trying to re-install my harness after removing for cleaning, new connectors, and a coil relay. I have run into a few problems. First is that I have two white wires in the headlight bucket that I cannot determine their function. Their power is switched. I took a look at the wiring color chart on Basscliff's site and their is nothing white listed in the bucket. Also the brown wire that I was told should be for running lights in this thread: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=177598 is hooked up instead by a quick connect to my ignition.

The last mysterious wire is white with a red tracer that exits the harness near the battery in the same bundle as the oil pressure switch wire.

Download this wiring diagram from Basscliff's site http://cid-2370b62ddf9f0c6b.skydrive...%5E_switch.jpg

You will see the White/Red wire on the R/R and the White wire going to the headlamp bulb.
    Hope that helps you.

Okay I see the white red coming from the handlebar switch and ending in nothing I take it? I should have clarified, the white wire is not one for the headlight, as that one is already hooked up and functioning properly.

The white wires may be something a PO did if its not on the wiring diagram. Maybe PO replaced a damaged wire with white. I would open The insulation tape and trace it back. It may be joined to the original colour or it may be an extra wire added.
Just keep to that wiring diagram and fix whatever does not comply and you should be OK.
If you see funny things its usually two wrongs making a right, someone fixed a problem by hacking something else. Your brown wire seems to fall in this category, disconnect it and check what does not work.

I see the white/red wire on the r/r, but what does the one in the main harness go to? In the diagram it ends in two slash marks, right by *modification.

            Hi,

The white/red wire used to go up to the headlight switch and come back as a white/green wire. When the headlight was turned off, one leg of the stator would also be turned off to guard against putting too much voltage into the battery and boiling it dry.

These days we bypass this useless loop (most of us don't have a headlight switch) and wire the three stator wires directly to the input wires of the r/r unit, as shown in the diagram.

            Thank you for your indulgence,

            BassCliff

Okay then, my stator is wired directly to the r/r as you stated. The PO must have had charging problems and done this, as I have an aftermarket stator of some make. The "white" wires were actually faded grey, I traced them back to the license plate light.

The Grey wires are for the gauge illumination, number plate and running lights. If you do not have a headlight switch, have a look at one of the other GS1000G diagrams for the US type and you will see how they connected the power from the Orange/Red to the Grey wire where the headlight switch would have been.

Thanks. I traced them back and everything looked good, I used one for my gauge illumination, actually. Just to be clear though, the red/white and green/white are the 3rd phase wires you recommend removing in the wiring harness cleaning section of electrical odds and ends?

Yes, although some people recommend keeping them and using for things like a coil relay modification. I prefer keeping OEM colour wires as per the wiring diagram and rather using different colour wire for modifications if possible.

Have you got all your wiring sorted out and everything working now?

Sadly not quite. I am still having an issue with the starter button as detailed in this thread: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=177833. I was working on it last night but I ended up running out of fuses to blow, so I'll be continuing today after I get home from work.
