    12 Verses 18 pole stator

I just purchased a new stator from eletrosport and it has 12 poles rater than the 18 on the one I pulled out .Will this be a problem?

Only if you want your charging system to work.
No, it will not work, you need the 18 to match up with your magnets on the rotor.

Wait, I told you wrong. Let me get the part number for you.

        This should be correct:
        Part #: ESG015
        Replaces OEM #:
        31401-45030
        31401-45011

Just checked Eletrosport,s web site. If you search for stators and then put in 1980 suzuki it gives the 12 pole as fitting 77-80 550s .If you serch for 1980 GS 550L and then stators it gives the 18 pole unit .
I think I will bring this to there attention .

the ESG015 is the 12 pole stator
theESGO14 is the 18 pole stator

Good answer. I went back and read your first post, the new one should match the old one, which you stated was 18 pole.

Went back and looked again. If you select stator/suzuki and look at model, it first lists 1978-80 550. That is where I stopped the first time and it gave me the 12 pole. However, going down that list 2 more items shows the 1980 L/M, which shows the 18 pole. What they have is a case of poor programming practices. They still should know how confusing that is, I have been to that site lots of times and they still fooled me.

A beer sounds fine. Mr. Machinest should check that his old 18 pole stator matches up with his rotor that has 6 pairs of poles, just in case someone has erred.
