Horn Question
Mine is an '81 GS 850G. The horn switch is incorporated into the LH handlebar controls as you already know. I've changed to stronger horns so I've added a relay and it's worked fine for a good while. Lately I've had to push hard on the button to activate the horn relay which electrically draws zip. I'm assuming that the horn switch in the handlebar control is dirty, burnt--somehow defective. I've skeeched it with contact cleaner to no avail. Is it possible to access the horn switch to physically clean the contacts or can it be replaced without replacing the entire hanlebar control? Any assistance would be appreciated---thanksTags: None

Yes, you can disassemble the switch to clean it. There will be at least one contact that needs to be cleaned/sanded/etc.
I suggest getting a large baggie (I use the gallon size) and take it apart in there. There are some tiny parts that could get lost and that would be a bad thing.

Yeah, I had to run a tiny dab of super glue to hold the spring in place, then I reassembled it.
I figured there might have been some kind of trick to get the spring to stay in place, but I was in a hurry and needed to ride.

I'm horning again. I wouldn't want to assemble those switches for a living. Thanks for all advice
