Would the accel super coils from an 89 GSXR work for my 82 1100ez?
I am looking at a really cheap auction for a set of accel super coils but their part number is M-17782 and the (dead) ones on my bike are M-17784. I am curious if it would work w/ my system.Tags: None

ever heard of google ? First link up
3 ohms would make them good to go

actually, I found that posting earlier. I thought our bikes were CDI. Now that I know they are not I can rest easy w/ bidding. I was not able to find anything on the part # that I had which is why I asked.

Part #140403, M-17782
You need 3.0 ohm coils for a stock Suzuki......
Motorcycles equipped with capacitive discharge ignition (CDI) will really come alive when equipped with the ACCEL Super Coil Kit. ACCEL's engineers designed this coil's special low resistance (0.7ohms) primary windings to match operating characteristics of factroy installed and aftermarket CDI systems, getting maximum performance with fast rise times. Made in the U.S.A. Kit includes (2) Super Coils, (4) 8.8mm Universal Plug Wires and all mounting hardware.- WARNING: Using the wrong coils may damage your motorcycles electronic ignition module. To determine what ignition type you have, use this application chart
- ACCEL #140404S- 2cyl (1 coil kit) CDI 0.7ohms
- ACCEL #140403-4cyl (2 kit) Inductive 3.0 ohms
- ACCEL #140403S-2cyl (1 coil kit) Inductive 3.0 ohms

OK, I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out if my bike is a CDI or Inductive ignition system. Everything I've searched doesn't specify which particular system it is. I know Pos said the 3.0ohm coils would be fine but the model/part # on my coils is listed on the accel catalog for a CDI system and is showing it should have a primary resistance of 0.7 ohms. I know I purchased a used ignitor from Ebay so I will need to double check the part # on that as well as the original part which I saved. HELP!!

The basic principle
Most ignition systems used in cars are inductive discharge ignition (IDI) systems, which are solely relying on the electric inductance at the coil to produce high-voltage electricity to the spark plugs as the magnetic field breaks down when the current to the primary coil winding is disconnected (disruptive discharge). In a CDI system, a charging circuit charges a high voltage capacitor, and at the instant of ignition the system stops charging the capacitor, allowing the capacitor to discharge its output to the ignition coil before reaching the spark plug.
If the above is true then someone probably put a low ohm coil on your bike and burned out the coils and or igniter which is probably why you are looking for a net set.
I'm sure this is described in the manualLast edited by posplayr; 06-25-2011, 04:33 PM.

My dad told me the bike ran well for about 4-5 years w/ those accel coils. I don't know what electrical issues began when it would no longer start. I don't think the coils would have lasted that long if they were for a cdi instead of the idi. If so, could this be the reason for running a bit hot? My dad told me that before the bike would no longer start, the only problem he had was running a bit hot. I have the feeling the heat was from running a bit lean since he added an aftermarket exhaust and pod filters but I'm still a newbie.Last edited by Guest; 06-25-2011, 04:58 PM.

Well, I won the auction for those coils I was talking about. Came out to $57 shipped. Hopefully its all I need.

Too bad you couldn't have made out with them for the price they started at
When you receive them, test em and make sure they are still in working order.

That will definitely be my first priority
