I would be concerned about someone who claims to be a battery geek (a.k.a. expert) but does not know that AGM and gel batteries are two different animals. http://www.batterystuff.com/tutorial...y_gel_agm.html

I had to read it carefully, but finally found this:
Once the battery is activated (filled with acid) it never needs refilling;
Spill-proof design means virtually no possibility of leaks (after proper activation and cycling)*
It's that pesky little asterisk that bothers me.
NOWHERE did I see another asterisk to explain the first one, and NOWHERE did I see that acid was included.

They also claim it is a sealed battery: "Sealed and maintenance free operation".
Who seals it, the purchaser? How is this done? This is an honest question because it seems counter-intuitive to me. If I can open it up to pour the acid in, it ain't sealed to me.
Steve, the asterisk is to explain proper activation and cycling. Duh.
I think that means you have to call an 800 number to activate the battery (just like a credit card) and then put it on your bicycle and go around the block.
All kidding aside, they are describing a Gel battery rather than an AGM. With both my AGMs I just popped them into the battery box and started the bike, just as the instructions told me.

This is the way "AGM" batteries from Wal-Mart are, and it made me wary. You get acid with the battery, then seal it yourself.

Hi,
For the price, I guess it wouldn't be a huge loss if it turned out to be junk.
Just to let you know, I bought a Yuasa AGM battery from my favorite local bike shop (Cycle Rider in Montclair, corner of Central and Holt - great people) 4 years ago. It wasn't exactly cheap at $85 (they are probably a little more expensive nowadays) but it hasn't given me any trouble at all, even after my wreck. It's still going strong.
I hope I just didn't jinx myself. I'm riding up to renobruce's next week.
Thank you for your indulgence,

I bought this AGM battery.
The above eBay ad is accurate so far. I can put it on it's side without it leaking. Never tried upside down yet (don't wanna try!).
This battery cannot be opened anywhere. Not even a vent tube hole. It came already charged at 12.93 volts. Had all the nuts and bolts.
All I did was take out out of the box and put it straight onto my bike. No acid added and I didn't even charge it.
Now my bike isn't even running (no engine) but all of the electronics work nicely!
For example, the headlight.
Although, I have never really used this battery yet, I'm satisfied.

I'm running a Wal-Mart AGM battery in my KZ1000 at the moment. I wanted a full size battery that I could lay on it's side due to my mono-shock conversion. Yes I had to fill it with acid myself. The fiberglass mat did a nice job of absorbing said acid and it shows no sign of any spill-able liquid inside after the acid is completely absorbed. Yes I had to charge it myself. BTW it has a cap that snaps in place to seal the filler holes after you pour in the acid.
In my application, the battery is flat on it's side, and hasn't leaked a drop in almost a year. It's compatible with the normal charging system, doesn't discharge nearly as much as a lead-acid when stored, and always starts the bike with authority. In short, I'm very satisfied. Only time will tell how long it lasts, but I'm going strong so far.
I don't claim any knowledge of the ebay AGM's but since someone brought up the Wal-Mart batteries, I thought that I would add my experience.

I was thinking of buying a "Moto Batt" but they are $80 now although I like the idea of having 4 terminals to play with....
I have a Scorpion AGM in the 1000 bought for about $65 - it's been great on my bike but the one in my friends GS750ES developed a leak from a random spot on the middle front side of the casing where there is a moulding relief in the case. This tells me the casing is likely pretty thin....
I'm looking for something for my KLR so vibration resistance is important.
These seem to get good reviews... with more research I have also found them on Amazon as a "Big Crank" brand.
I like the idea of the tapped connectors, save messing with those stupid nuts....

Any buying links? What part number did you buy?
If it's a difference of $40 or something I might be tempted but I'm not spring $200 for a battery...

I am a store manager for a battery company here in florida. I can ship all over and would be more than happy to hook up all the GS board members with 2 year free replacement batteries at the cheapest prices. They carry nation wide warranties!
PM me for details.
