That said, I purchased a flywheel/starter clutch/rotor/magneto whatever the description dujour, wanting to make life easier should I need to repair my charging system in the years to come, I bought a rotor from an 82 GS850 to go on my 79 GS850.
I also bought a stator to go along with the rotor from a 2002 GS550.
18 pole, windings are like new, etc. etc.
Anyway, I just got around to pulling the rotor from the bike, man is that fun!!!, and was ready to prep and install the 'new' rotor.
I always do a surface check before installing any part to check for deformity and I found the inner race to be scored.

The scoring is not a run some light emery paper or steel wool and remove type, you can feel the grooves in the metal surface.

My crankshaft end is pristine, not a score, mark, or groove to be found.
Would you all take a chance and install after a light clean up?
Or would you mark this up to being taken and start to find another?
for 25$ shipped and I bought it.
