I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I just checked the manual, page 11-15 in the manual says 3.4W. Don't go looking for the dot, I think they just omitted it. I think I used around 1.5 watt which are readily available. The 3.4w I had trouble finding.'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM) My Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/soates50/

So, I have not seen any more post here on the info I'm looking for. does anyone have more info here to help make this seemingly simple, but difficult repair easier? I would appreciate it!
The bracket that holds the gauges in place on the back of the gauges,does it have to come completely off, or just loosened to drop it back a bit to be able to have enough room to pull the bulb/boot piece, out of the gauge? any help is appreciated!

I think you need to pull the gauges completely off the bike. Unbolt them from the triple clamp, bracket and all. Then you can take the bracket off next. One caution: be careful when pulling off the rubber boots sealing the bulbs. They like to tear.Ed

Ok Mr. Nessism;
Your right. The boots are tearing, and I don't know how else to pull out those bulbs, but, I'm thinking this, it's not the bulbs, both lights on the Tach aren't working. that seems a bit unusual to me that they would both quit at the same time. seems to me it would be a connection someplace. make sense? so, seeing has how I took a bunch of things of the bike to clean it up some prior to reassembly, and I replaced the stator, & regulator/rectifier, and when I did that, there are 2 wires not used any more that used to hook up to the stator(original system was 6 wires, new upgraded Electrex system is 4 wires), might the problem be there, or maybe when I took the handlebar switch assemblies off the handlebar for cleaning? where might the problem be? I know that 1 wire goes to the light switch from the bulbs. any ideas here would be helpful from you electrical experts. please give me your thoughts folks. Thanks!Last edited by Guest; 07-31-2011, 03:28 PM.

I just think it's really weird that both lights would quit at the same time! when the bike came apart originally 15 years ago, they were working. I replaced the stator(Electrex),and regulator/rectifier(Electrex),did a bunch of clean up work on the bike before reassembly, with the battery not in the bike, now those light don't work. speedo lights work though.
Has I stated in an earlier post on this string, the old stator(factory orig.) had 6 wires coming out of it. the new stator has 4 wires. I have 2 wires not hooked up in the wiring loom, right where the battery are is. I was told here on these forums last year that I didn't have to hook those 2 wires up. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it, but that really doesn't make much sense to me. the wires out of the bulb socket, 1 wire goes to the spedo lights, and the other wire goes to the light switch on the handlebar controls on the left handlebar. I don't know? if no one here can give some suggestions, I'll probably just take it to my mechanic and let him figure it out. but I'd rather save the money. I'm Hurtin just like a lot of you.
And this bike will be up for sale. offers will be accepted through PM's here on the forums. Thanks for any help given!Last edited by Guest; 08-04-2011, 10:09 AM.

Sorry man, but electrical issues aren't the kind of things that can be diagnosed over the internet. As already suggested, you need to get out your multimeter and start checking circuits.
If you're selling the bike how about posting some photos here? Maybe someone, like me, will take it off your hands so you don't have to fuss with issues like this.Ed

I guess I'll just leave the issue up to my mechanic to figure out down the road.
Has far has the selling of the bike, I'll send pics to those that are seriously, and I mean SERIOUSLY interested, and I'm telling you now, I'm not going to give it away. it's going to cost someone some real cash!
The reason I won't post pics is when I did last year, when the bike was still apart, everybody just lined up and were trashing my bike here on these forums. picking it apart piece by piece. I understand those that might want this bike, are going to do & say what they think they have to, to get it has cheap has possible. I said it already here once, the bike is 32 years old. I'm the original owner, buying it new 4th of July weekend in 1979. it has it's issues, but it's an excellent bike to restore back to the way it was new, and that's what I want to see happen to it. I won't sell it has a "parts" bike, and if I have any inkling that that is what someone wants it for, I'll kill the deal, if there even is a deal happening. I'll get what I want, or I'll die with it in my possession, and have it buried right next to me when I go.
Don't want to sound like a jerk because I'm not, but that is how much I love this bike. and all these things I just said here, is why I won't discuss what I want for it in an open forum. I'll tell those interested, the issues has best I can, and will then listen to offers. that's the way I'm going to roll on this.Thanks to you all for the suggestions on the tach lite issues!Last edited by Guest; 08-04-2011, 07:07 PM.
